NEWS OF 2019

West Country League Final 

A total of three teams were in action, with Danielle Armado, Emily Clark, Freyja Irving-French, Maddie Grimshaw, Eloisa Slade and Florrie Strange first up in the A League.

The B League team was made up of Jemma Vincent, Leah Bishop, Tamar Hibbert, Emily Macklin-Day, Katherine Allday and Anca Minea, while Millie Stokes, Katie Francis, Sophie Townsend, Ellie Treacy and Eva Falcone-Healy were all in the C League squad.

The A League side opened up proceedings and got off to a strong start, winning a bronze medal on the day as well as placing fourth overall in the league.

The B League team improved on that performance and claimed a silver medal on the day as well as finishing second in the overall league.

But that effort was topped by the C League team once they took to the mats as they won gold on the day as well as winning the over league championship title.




Firstly, club members travelled to the British Disability Gymnastics Championships in Leicester, where Teigan Higgs put together a superb competition to beat her personal best on all four apparatus and gain all-around silver and bronze on beam.

During the same weekend, round two of the West Country League regional competition took place, with Chippenham having teams in the A, B and C divisions.

The C team led the way with a silver medal and there was a bronze apiece for the A and B squads.

The following weekend, the Miss Quatro Spooktakular National competition was held and saw Moonraker members hold their own against gymnasts from clubs from all across the country.

On day one, Danielle Armado and Freya Irving French completed all of their requirements to gain vital national competition experience.

Day two yielded medals for Moonraker as Mylah won gold on floor and silver on beam for sixth place overall, while Evie claimed a silver on floor and bronze on beam.

Rosie competed well on all four pieces of apparatus, while Maddie battled hard despite a couple of falls and showed good character throughout.

Abigail finally got a chance to compete this year after two injuries and won a bronze on floor, while Eloisa claimed gold on vault.

There was also a gold score for Emily MD as well as a bronze on beam, while Florrie and Katherine both notched silver scores. Emily C was also in action and again showed her growing confidence.

The final day of action yielded a team bronze for Chippenham, with Eva also awarded a gold ribbon on both vault and bars and finishing just 0.3 points away from overall gold.

Leah won silver ribbons on beam and bars, Ellie added a bronze ribbon on vault, while Millie had a good, clean competition.


Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics (CMG) attended the South West Quatro Cup in Barnstaple. 

In total CMG entered 12 gymnasts and came away with 12 medals, 1 trophy and a qualifier for Nationals against the best in the South West.

First to enter on the day was Danielle Armado who got the day off to an amazing start in Level 5, 9 years category! Armado with solid routines, Armado was against 14 other gymnasts from across the region and came away with Bronze overall, Gold for vault and Beam and a Silver on Bars. 

Up next was the Level 4 age categories which saw new moves competed and great performances from all 8 CMG gymnasts:

Level 4, 12 & 13 years (against 22 others was Eva Falcony -Healy who with a fantastic performance gained overall gold giving her the title Level 4 Champion! Jemma Vincent was thrilled to gain gold on Beam placing 8th overall.  Tamar Hibbert and Emily Macklin-Day gave it their all with Tamar coming overall 5th on Bars and Emily achieving an overall 13th on Bars.

Level 4, 11 years (agains15 others) was the turn of Millie Stokes who with new moves and a good confident performance gained overall bronze with a gold on Vault. Katherine Allday and Florrie Strange also did very well with both gaining a joint overall 8th place on bars. Leah Bishop competing giants for the first time gained an overall bronze on bars and an overall 5th place.

Final round was the turn of the Level 3, FIG Junior, Senior and Espoir gymnasts.

Sophie Townsend competed at Level 3 with a lot of new moves and routines, showed great determination through a difficult round which paid off with an overall 6th on Beam and 7th on Vault.

Competing in the FIG Espoir for CMG was Ellie Treacy who had a great experience competing for her first time at this level and did herself proud to gain an overall bronze on the vault, in this round was also the turn of Katie Francis in the FIG-Junior section who with new skills gave a solid all round performance which was rewarded with an overall silver, gold on vault, silvers on bars and beam and a bronze on floor, this resulted in Katie automatically qualifying for National Challenge Cup later on in the year which is a brilliant achievement.

It was a fabulous day for CMG, Headcoach Hannah West said  ‘Everyone could not be any prouder today, all the gymnasts gave it their all in a tough regional competition against the best in the South West and as usual the team spirit was high with all the gymnasts really supporting each other through the ups and downs of the day! What is impressive is these gymnasts train on limited hours and equipment within a Leisure Centre and compete at this level, we are super proud of them all, for their sheer determination, hard work and commitment of both gymnast, coaches, volunteers and parents.’



Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics recently had great success at the Adult Gymnastics British Championships in Lilleshall.  Both gymnasts were competing for the first time with great success and personal goals achieved.  Day 1 saw Julie Bright take on the Beam, Floor and Vault with good tidy routines with real determination. Julie did herself proud by coming 5th overall in the Newbie over 30’s category and a new passion for the sport.  Day 2 saw Liza Clarke compete in the Intermediate over 30’s category, putting in solid performances across all four pieces, floor, beam, vault and bars.  Liza gained 2nd on the uneven bars, 1st on beam giving Liza an overall silver medal at the championships. Great achievements by both gymnast CMG are super proud of them both proving it is never too late to give anything a go.  Adult gymnastics is on a Thursday and a Friday 7.30pm to 9am, no memberships required, pay as you go basis.



Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics took part at the Springboard Championships across three rounds with 10 of their gymnasts taking part.   All gymnasts had great performances with new moves and personal bests for some.  Round 1 saw CMG’s Eva Falcony-Healy doing brilliantly across all pieces which gained her the 12yrs Springboard Champion with overall gold, as well as gold on Vault and the Beam.

The next round was the turn of Katherine Allday, Leah Bishop, Emily Clark, Millie Stokes, Eloisa Slade and Florrie Strange who gave confident performances with Leah Bishop gaining overall silver and a gold on beam and a bronze on vault, Mille Stokes gained overall 6th place taking bronze on floor and vault, Emily Clarke gained overall 5th on Bars and Florrie Strange overall 5th on vault, Katherine Allday also gained overall 8th on vault.

The final round was the turn of Danielle Armado, Tamar Hibbert and Emily Macklin-Day who again did CMG proud with Danielle gaining a gold on vault, silver on beam with an overall 5th place and Tamar gaining a silver on vault and overall joint 4th place. Emily Macklin-Day gained an overall 4th position on beam against tough competition.  Head coach Steven West said it was a remarkable day especially as the gymnasts have had a busy few weeks and are still going strong, can’t be prouder of them all! 



Sunday 30th June we Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics compete in round 1 of the West Country League with 3 teams entering.  The club had an amazing day with all teams putting in solid performances which meant all three teams coming away with 13 Gold medals and a good points difference in the league tables for each team.  Head coach Hannah West said ‘We are all super pleased for them, especially as there were lots of new moves being competed for the first time and the team spirit was fantastic they did everyone and themselves proud!’ Team A: Danielle Armado, Frejya Irving-French, Eloisa Slade, Emily Clark, Millie Stokes and Florrie Strange. Team B: Leah Bishop, Catherine Allday, Jemma Vincent, Tamar Hibbert. Team C: Katie Francis, Sophie Townsend, Ellie Treacy and Eva Falcony-Healy.



Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics had great success and fun at the Summer Sizzler competition. A total of 14 Gymnasts took part for CMG in this regional competition.

Agatha Parsons, Ruby Mires, Lily Guest and Chloe Burns all competed first all giving competent performances, providing these young gymnasts with great valuable fun experience. In round 2 we saw Florence Mayhead take overall 1st place with gold on vault and bars and silver on beam and floor, Sophie Morgan came overall 2nd with silver on vault and beam, Macie Cotter took bronze on the vault and beam with Evie-May Last gaining overall 4th place in her age group with gold for floor, bars and beam and a silver on floor.  Francesca DiPisa took overall 3rd place with gold on floor and vault and a bronze on bars, whilst her teammate Lauren Ball gained overall 2nd place, with bronze on beam and silver on floor. Sarah Clark in her category gave a good performance taking overall 9th place. The final round was the turn of Teigan Higgs who came overall 4th in her age group, with Abigail Bussey gaining overall 6th place with a bronze on beam. Finally; it was the turn of Anca Minea who gained overall 3rd place with a gold for vault and floor.

Everyone competed well against tough regional competition and they all thoroughly enjoyed the day, it was valuable experience for all who took part.



Chippenham Gymnastics entered 4 gymnasts into the latest National Grades competition on 28th April.   Representing the club in the first round was Leah Bishop in National Grade 4 passing with highly commended and winning an overall silver on beam, next to compete in National Grade 2 was Ellie Treacy and Sophie Townsend.  Ellie passed with highly commended and Sophie gaining highly commended and an overall bronze on beam.  Last to compete was Katie Francis who despite an accident on bars which meant being unable to complete the whole grading, still came away with overall silver on floor and the vault plus an overall bronze on range and conditioning.  Coaches Hannah and Steve said it had been a successful day and they very proud of all the gymnasts that took part.  



6th & 7th APRIL 2019


Day 1: Chippenham Moonraker Gymnasts entered 4 gymnasts at Grade 6 and came away with 2 Distinctions and 2 Highly Commended.  The gymnasts had to compete across all four pieces: bars, beam, floor, vault plus range and conditioning. All gave sterling performances which meant Megan and Freya both came away with distinctions and Jasmine and Maia came away with Highly Commended.




6th & 7th APRIL 2019


Day 2: it was the turn of 7 gymnasts competing for CMG and again all put in great solid performances to come away with Distinctions and Highly Commended across the four pieces plus range and conditioning.  First on the day was Danielle competing at Grade 5 achieving Highly Commended, 2nd to compete was Emily Clark who also gave a great performance to achieve Highly Commended in Grade 4. For Grade 3 it was the turn of Florrie, Katherine, Millie who achieve Distinctions and Charlotte who achieve Highly Commended all gave lovely performances.

Last round of the day was Grade 2 which was the turn of Emily Macklin Day who had a great competition to achieve a Distinction and overall 5th out of 25 gymnasts which was a great personal achievement.

Steve West said he was overwhelmed by how hard all the gymnasts worked over the weekends competition and the results were well deserved! Great sportsmanship and team spirit from all the gymnasts – they represented themselves and the club brilliantly!



In March 2019Chippenham Moonrakers Gymnastics competed in the South West Grades competition with great success.  CMG had 15 gymnasts taking part.  Everyone passed with either Highly Commended or Distinction.  In Grade 5: Chloe Burns, Evie Stratton, Mylah Bishop, Rosie Rostron and Agatha Parsons all achieving Highly Commended with Evie and Mylah gaining a distinction, with Mylah achieving silver overall. In the Grade 4 category we saw Francesca Dipisa, Sophie Morgan, Lauren Ball, Florence Mayhead, Sophie Clinton, Maddie Grimshaw Lily Guest, Ruby Mires, Charlotte Glover and Sarah Clark again with Highly Commended with Florence Mayhead achieving all round Bronze. 

Steve West Head Coach said, ‘It was a great day against some stiff competition, so their achievement was a real credit to themselves and the coaches, we are very proud of them all’.
