The last competitive outing for our gymnasts was another successful one at the NDP Grades in Plymouth on Sunday 1st December.

At NDP 13, Emma Rhodes and Lauren Searle performed with great focus and confidence to pass their grade with distinction and finish in FIRST and FOURTH place in the overall standings.  Competing against gymnasts from across the entire South West region this was an outstading result for both girls.

At NDP 12, Lizzie Drew and Katie Strange also showed plenty of class to again achieve their grade with distinction and Katie earning fourth place in the overall standings.

Finally, at NDP 11, Dominique Cator worked through a heavy cold to complete a full house for CMG, earning her grade with distinction and finishing in second place in the overall standings.

Thats it for 2013 everyone!  Next event is the club competition on 19th January 2014 - see you all there!

Team Moonraker did it again in style at the West Country League finals weekend at the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics.  The A League team wrapped up their season with the silver medal in the final match, meaning they took the Runner-Up spot in the league for the year - a remarkable achievement in only their first season in the event.

In addition, we saw some fantastic individual performances from the girls, with Ruby Beard placing first on vault and third on floor; Jenny Francklin taking third on vault; and Maisie Russell placing second on beam, third on bars and fourth place in the all around standings.

A huge congratulations to all of the gymnasts, coaches and parents for supporting the team throughout the year.  Special thanks to Steve West and Cheryl Kimber for judging on behalf of the club at the event.

Then in Round 2, Morgan Sanderson successfully completed grade 2 with Mia Wright achieving an excellent pass at Pre-Level in a group with much older (and taller!!) gymnasts.

Congratulations to everyone who competed over the weekend, and thank you to all the coaches and judges who supported our athletes throughout.  Keep the results coming in!

On Sunday 17th November, we sent eight girls to the Wiltshire Grades event at the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics in Melksham.  In round 1, we saw six gymnasts achieve the required standards to pass their grades:

Grade 4 - Grace Langford

Grade 3 - Teigan Higgs, Tegan Seed, Millie Ambler, Megan Dowling and Ella Stiles.

Coach Jennie Christensen kicked off the weekend with a successful outing at the British Veterans Championships in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on Saturday 16th November.  Competing in the over 30 Pro competition, Jennie completed three clean routines to claim the bronze medal against younger and tougher opponents than in previous years' events.  Jennie placed first on vault, and fourth on both beam and floor on the way to winning the all-around bronze medal.

Congratulations to our West Country 'A' League team who took a fantastic silver medal at the match held on Sunday 6th October.  They will compete in the final round of the event on the weekend of 23rd/24th November with the aim of matching their second place finish (or maybe going one better!!).

The team was Kelsey Stokes, Jenny Francklin, Kacey Gainey, Ruby Beard, Megan Jones and Maisie Russell.  A special congratulations to Megan who placed 2nd overall on the vault and 3rd overall on the bars!

A huge congratulations to all 39 CMG gymnasts who took part and performed really well - you made the coaches and your parents very proud indeed.

It was a very early start for Mia and Kelsey, the two youngest CMG competitors, at Grade 13, and after a wobbly start on beam, both girls performed very well, passing their grade easily and with Mia squeaking a distinction!  Special mention should be made of Kelsey's floor routine which was performed beautifully, and Mia's explosive vault which earned one of the highest scores of the grade.

In the last round of the day, with temperatures soaring and the judges intent on seeing out the Wimbledon Final rather than do their job scoring the gymnasts(!!), five CMG gymnasts put in some fantastic performances despite the heat on floor, vault and bars, earning excellent scores at Grade 12 and putting themselves in with a decent opportunity to grade with distinction.  Unfortunately the wheels came off a little on beam with only Charlotte Townsend able to stay on the apparatus, but despite this setback all of the girls passed their grade with Kacey Gainey earning a distinction along with the 8th highest overall total of the day.  Special credit must also be given to Jenny Franklin for competing depsite not having been in the gym all week due to illness.  Well done also to Lucy Keir and Megan Jones for their efforts in passing the grade.

CMG entered gymnasts into the Wiltshire Levels event for the first time this year.  Competing at Level 5, all four entrants competed new skills in competition for the first time and performed well against tough opposition.  All four gymnasts finished in the top 6 in their respective age categories.

In the 10 year old age group, Ruby Beard had a clean competition with no falls to finish in 6th position; Kacey Gainey had a more difficult day counting falls on both floor and beam but still managed to finish in an excellent 5th position.  Both girls were less than a single point away from the medals which is very encouraging.

In the 11 year old age group, both Maisie Russell and Jenny Francklin had problems on beam, but held their nerve well on the following piece, floor, where they both competed their tucked back somersaults for the first time with great success.  In the final standings, Maisie finished in 5th position with Jenny just ahead of her in 4th place.

Overall a very pleasing day.  Well done everyone!

A big well done to all the gymnasts who took part in the Wiltshire Grades on Sunday 2nd of June.  All the gymnasts entered passed their grades with flying colours.

Grade 4 - Tegan Seed, Sophie Townsend, Ellie Kimber and Freya Gleed.  A special mention to Tegan Seed who finished in 5th position overall and took the top score on floor; and to Sophie Townsend for placing 2nd on the vault.

Grade 3 - Amber Rachele, with the tough job of competing on her own with no team mates around her.  Amber put a difficult start on beam behind her scoring well on the other apparatus to pass the grade.

Grade 1 - Again, beam proved to be a challenge for our girls at grade 1 with only Lucy Keir managing to stay on the apparatus!  However every gymnast managed to hold their nerve for the rest of the competition putting in some terrific scores (a number of them being personal bests) on the other three events and again passing their grades - so well done to Lucy, Charlotte Townsend, Ruby Beard, Katie Strange, Megan Jones and Mabel Smaller.

2nd December 2012 - SOUTH WEST REGIONAL GRADES NDP 14-9

Ten gymnasts from CMG took part in the National Development Plan grading competition held at Plymouth Swallows Gymnastics centre.  The long journey proved worthwhile with all ten gymnasts being awarded their grade with distinction!  We are all over the moon for the girls, what a fantastic achievement!  While medals were not awarded due to it being a grading, it should be noted that Dominique Cator finished 2nd overall in grade 12 with Katie Strange being awarded the 2nd highest mark of the whole competition for her Range & Conditioning set which shows strength and flexibility and is unique to the grading events.

Well done girls!

Assistant Head Coach Jennie Christensen competed for the second year in the British Veterans Championships, held this year in Newcastle upon Tyne.  Having won the intermediate title in 2011, Jennie had to move up into the 'formers' category for 2012.  Despite an unexpected stumble on the floor, Jennie was successful in winning her second British title, and hopes to defend it in 2013.

Congratulations Jennie!

On top of the Worcestershire Beacon, the highest point of the Malvern hills - number 9 in the party is behind the camera!

Nine members of CMG's coaching team and Committee successfully made it across the Malvern Hills on Sunday 26th May to raise funds for improving equipment at the club.  Well done to Sarah, Steve, Sue, Jennie, Lois, Kirstie, Monica, Dewi and Dylan for completing the trek in fabulous weather.  Despite taking the odd wrong turn, the occasional slip resulting in some spectacular road rash, and developing some impressive blisters along the way everyone made it to the end in remarkably high spirits to be met by tea, coffee and well-deserved cupcakes supplied by committee member Pauline and the rest of her family.

The overall total raised we believe is now in excess of £1000 - so thank you to everyone who supported the walk in whatever way.  The final total will be announced once all monies have been collected.

Right, back to the gym.....

A big pat on the back to three of our squad gymnasts, Dom, Lizzie and Maisie who held a Bake Sale in the Emery Gate shopping centre on Sunday 17th March to raise money for both Comic relief and Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics Club.  Between them the girls baked over 500 cakes and sold out of all stock by the end of the day.  They raised £160 which they will split 50:50 between the two good causes.

Well done girls and thank you very much for your donation!

Michael Bright, Managing Director of IMSM Ltd. with some of the CMG Gymnasts

Great news!  Chippenham Moonraker gymnasts are jumping for joy at the news that they have received donations totalling £5500 from two funds to improve and increase the equipment available at their sessions.

IMSM have generously donated £5000 to replace the old blue mats used for warm-ups which are very tired and worn, and often move about under foot making life tricky when the children are running around at the start of the session.  The funding has allowed the club to purchase a further 3 long roll up mats which will now mean we have a full sized competition floor area as well as a safe warm-up area.  In addition, the club have been able to buy a 9m x 3m 'airtrack' - an inflatable tumbling track which will mean the gymnasts can learn and practise the more difficult somersaulting elements without excessive stress on their joints.  The remaining money has been spent on coaches uniform, now proudly displaying the IMSM logo as a thank you for their generous support.

CMG has also received a further £500 from the Tim Waycott Trust Fund, a local foundation that supports youth sporting groups in Chippenham and the surrounding areas.  The CMG coaches now face the difficult task of deciding which piece of equipment will be the most beneficial to purchase next - a red coaching block or a new springboard!  It is a nice dilemma to have.

A huge thank you to both IMSM and the Tim Waycott Trust Fund for helping us to realise our gymnasts' dreams.
